Discover a Different Perspective

Do you ever wonder what you might be missing?

  • What information?
  • What options?
  • What opportunities?
  • What insight?

Hello and welcome to Logical Leadership. My name is Gord Aker and I am an experienced and ICF credentialed Executive Coach. What I offer my clients is a different perspective.

Let's face it, we all have our own perspective - a certain way of seeing or experiencing things that is shaped by our education, experience, background and even our expectations.  That's great - it's just not the whole story or the complete picture.

I help you more see more of the whole story by coaching you to discover a different perspective. This allows you to understand what assumptions you are making, what limitations you are imposing and what it is that other people may be seeing that you are not. This is the power of perspective.

Here are some of the benefits:

  • Reduce Blind Spots - get a more complete picture of what is going on.
  • Challenge Possibility - when is the last time you pulled out all the stops and really stretched? How do you know what you are capable of?
  • Get Unstuck - explore options and then make conscious choices. How long are you willing to wait in that state of paralysis?
  • See the Forest, Not Just the Trees - revisit the broader context to enhance your decision making. What is it that you are trying to achieve?
  • Recognize Opportunities - if you are only seeing the negative, you are missing something important! Opportunities are always waiting to be discovered - sometimes we need a bit of help to see them.
  • Understand where others are coming from. How important are relationships to you? What would be different if you were to really understand someone else and have them really understand you?

What benefits would discovering a different perspective bring to your business? Your career? Your life?

Why Work with Gord Aker?

Selecting the right coach can be a daunting task.  Here are some of the things that I recommend you look for:

  • Hire an ICF Credentialed Coach. Almost anyone can call themselves a coach these days and many are calling themselves "certified" having completed nothing more than a basic coach training program.  The ICF standards are among the most widely recognized in the world and are independent of any coaching school or training program. I hold the ACC credential from the ICF and was President of the Calgary ICF Chapter in 2009. I completed my coach training through the Coaches Training Institute and regularly engage in personal development activities to keep my skills current.
  • Look for Relevant Experience. It is important that you and your coach develop a strong, trust based relationship. Making sure your coach has a relevant background for what you are looking for in a coaching relationship encourages trust, accelerates learning and provides a strong foundation for a productive relationship.  I have over 12 years of organizational leadership experience, and over 25 years of business experience.  I am on my fourth career and have worked with clients ranging from university student leaders through to the Presidents of multi-million dollar corporations.
  • Honestly Assess Fit. Most coaches will agree that the most important criterion in selecting a coach is relationship fit or compatibility. What is the coach's style? How long have they been coaching? How open, authentic and confident are they in providing their service? Decide what is really important to you in the coaching relationship and then use that as a starting point.  My clients tell me that I am insightful, reflective and courageous in my coaching and that I have a great sense of humour.  Most of my clients come from referrals.

How It Works

Coaching is a professional conversation designed to help clients acquire personal insight about themselves or their situation and then translate that insight into meaningful action and positive change.

I firmly believe that coaching only works when an individual decides for themselves that they would benefit from some professional assistance in achieving what they want and deserve. Sometimes this decision is reached after periods of frustration, dissatisfaction or a hunger for more.  Whatever the timing - when you are ready you will know.

My services are configured to be very flexible. I require no contract or long term commitment although most clients benefit from a three month engagement or longer. I also provide both in person coaching in Calgary or tele-coaching depending on your needs.  These options can also be mixed and matched to provide you with the best possible service.

It is also very important to me that you are delighted with the service you receive and in honour of this, I offer a money back guarantee.
